History of torque sensors Mar 07, 2023

Torque sensor technology is becoming more and more mature, but its development has gone through three stages. The first stage is the generation of measurement technology. Hooke's Law was discovered by Robert Hooke in 1678. Hooke's law describes the proportional relationship between material elongation and related material tension. And, with the advent of bridge circuits, small changes in voltage could be measured.

The second stage: the birth of rotary torque sensor. In 1945, the first rotary torque sensor was introduced on the market, based on the principle that if the axial torque of the shaft loaded below is twisted by an Angle, the torque will also change proportionally. The Angle of this twist can be measured by a measuring system.

The third stage is modern torque sensors. Modern torque sensors generally have analog output, and in these interfaces, adjacent drivers may cause interference. Then digital electronic sensors emerged to enhance anti-interference capabilities.

So far, torque sensors are still evolving rapidly, with more variety and capabilities. Its testing system will also develop towards miniaturization, digitalization, intelligence, virtualization and networking, from static testing to dynamic online testing direction.

Hefei Natural Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. specializes in providing all kinds of torque sensors and corresponding technical solutions.
